Stocking My Craft Cupboard–What I Buy at the Dollar Store

Stocking My Craft Cupboard–What I Buy at the Dollar Store
Do you ever run into a store to grab one small thing and next thing you know you have wandered the entire store? It happened to me just the other day at Dollar Tree I went in for some tissue paper and next thing I knew I had wandered every aisle in the place! I picked up some great items for our craft stash when I was there.   Do you have a list of things you DO & DO NOT buy at the dollar store? I sure do--check out my list below of the craft supplies I will buy at the dollar store. What I Buy at the Dollar Store: paper bags, paper plates disposable tablecloths Read more

4 Adults, 3 kids, 2 120lb dogs and 1 small cottage! But first the Car Ride…
As we near the Victoria Day long weekend, my husband and I are preparing our family for a little roadtrip to visit friends. What started out as a boy's fishing weekend has morphed into a family weekend as we had children. The boy's still get out to fish, but we're pretty sure they're gonna have some "help" this year. Last weekend my husband started to get the boat hitched to take it for it's trial run of the season. His plan was to slip out for a quick rip on the lake. Well we looked around and Bug had her life jacket on, announcing she was "going fishing too!" It has been a long time since that Read more

Mom’s the Word! Mother’s Day Ideas

Mom’s the Word! Mother’s Day Ideas
She's the one who made you blueberry pancakes on Sunday mornings. She made you milkshakes and rented your favourite movies when you had your wisdom teeth out... Who's that we're talking about? MOM of course! Since I've become a Mom, Mother's Day has taken on more meaning for me...if I can be honest, it kinda feels like a second birthday! My husband usually asks what I want to do on Mother's Day and I usually answer that I want to do something fun together as a family. He and the kids make breakfast and then we usually embark on a trip to the park, a picnic together and a swim for the dog (sometimes Read more

Cinnamon Rolls on a Sunny Sunday

Cinnamon Rolls on a Sunny Sunday
Do you have a recipe that reminds you of your childhood? Of spending time together in the kitchen? I remember making tea biscuits and pie with my grandma. She used to use the pastry scraps to make special little pies for us in tiny Pyrex dishes.  Rolling pastry with my mom (I had my own little rolling pin & cake pans!) and having the job of sprinkling the good stuff (chocolate chips, marshmallows, coconut) on pans of squares are some of my favourite memories. I sometimes find myself wondering what it will be that my girls remember from my kitchen. Will it be sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, Read more

Sharpies…The Real Truth Behind Those Works of Art

Sharpies…The Real Truth Behind Those Works of Art
So I posted some of our Easter projects last week...and well, there was one I didn't post that was a bit of a fail... Cute right? My husband walked by them on the counter and asked me where I got them! I really liked how they turned out and couldn't wait to show the girls--but first I washed them... You see I just grabbed a couple Sharpie's off my desk and went to town. My beautiful work washed off with very little effort in the sink. So I decided to look into this Sharpie thing a bit more... My project this week...Birthday plates for the girls. (Kinda funny since this is my birthday Read more

Easter Activities Around our House

Easter Activities Around our House
I've always loved Easter. I think I associate it with spring and new beginnings. It has always been a time for food and family (goes hand in hand with my family). Even in university I usually made the trip to have dinner with family in between exams. Now that I have kids it's exciting to share Easter with them. We got out some Easter decorations out last weekend and the girls spent about two hours playing with plastic eggs. They sorted colours, filled purses and shopping baskets, fought over colours... Bug was "trading" Monkey for all her pink and purple eggs. Problem was Monkey didn't know Read more

Here Comes’s the Easter Bunny!

Here Comes’s the Easter Bunny!
Well, who's ready for Easter Bunny to come? We aren't quite ready but we're getting there! I was picking out a few craft supplies last week and I saw a couple things perfect for Easter baskets. It led to me thinking about putting together Easter baskets for the girls... I do try and pick up little things as I see them throughout the year (telling myself I will be super prepared for the next holiday--sometime it will happen!) I think I used a traditional, little purple wicker basket for Bug her first Easter. More recently I have gotten a lot more creative, and definitely more practical! Read more

Our Toddler’s Favourite Books

Our Toddler’s Favourite Books
Boy, has it been a rough week around my house...First little Monkey came down with a stomach bug. The next day Bug was under the weather. It took my husband down the next day. And me you ask? Mom's still going strong (knock on wood!), although feeling a little queasy now and then. Do you ever get to the point where you can't tell whether you really feel sick or just the thought of having those sick people around you and knowing that you are likely next. Usually when the kids get something, I get something because they want to be held, hugged, rub their faces on your shoulder, you know what I Read more

Car Rides with the Kiddos

Car Rides with the Kiddos
Who loves a good road trip? I have always been a fan of them. Grab some books, my walkman (discman, mp3 player, ipod or iphone depending on the era), snacks and I was/am good to go. As kids we traveled to visit family frequently. In fact, my parents could probably tell you wonderful stories of my brother and I fighting in the back seat of the car. It never failed, an invisible line dividing the backseat of the car would eventually have to be drawn. I was the voice of all request radio from the backseat, making my suggestions for the next tape (!) or radio station. (Or signing along Read more

A Mom’s Tale (part 2-The Butterfly Conservatory)

A Mom’s Tale (part 2-The Butterfly Conservatory)
Welcome to the second part of our week together. It seems like forever since I have spent this much time together with my girls, but after spending Wednesday taking it easy and spending most of the day around the house (we did venture out for groceries) we were ready for an outing on Thursday. I'm not one to just hang out at home. With both of my maternity leaves there were very few days where we didn't go somewhere--the library, the early years centre, the park or a even a quick errand. I think it keeps me sane! That being said I can't wait for warm weather. I don't think I even remember what Read more
